[edit] Using discussion pages
If you want to start a new topic of discussion, click on the tab at the top of this page that is labeled with a +. If you want to contribute to a topic that is already in progress, click on the edit link next to the topic heading. Please take care to distinguish between an article — which it may not be appropriate for you to modify, or may even be locked for general editing — and the discussion page that is linked to every article. Don't forget to sign your contributions by clicking on the signature icon, second from the right end, in the icon bar above. --Malin 04:27, 18 September 2007 (PDT)
- There's one convenient formatting detail when using this forum that may not be obvious. A colon at the start of a paragraph indents it. Two colons indent even more, and so on. This makes it easy to separate one person's remarks from another's. --Cary 02:01, 20 September 2007 (PDT)
[edit] What is being evaluated?
The description of the moderators' tasks mentions "evaluation" in two different contexts. The one is the way the example.test names appear at the user interface. The other is the evaluation of the ICANN project framework in which these test domains are being presented. Since these are both parts of an even broader evaluation of the practical utility of IDN TLDs, can you describe more clearly what the moderators should focus on? --Q&A 00:40, 20 September 2007 (PDT)
- The IDN TLD evaluation is a necessary step toward the establishment of regular TLDs with IDN labels. There is no reason to expect any fundamental technical barriers to this to be uncovered during the example.test evaluation, but the correctness of that assumption does need to be confirmed. User feedback submitted via this wiki will be carefully considered during the conclusive deliberations about the timetable for taking IDN TLDs into full production. One of the other primary contributions of the moderators will be to channel key aspects of the parallel discussions in each of the local wikis, into the present forum. This will be done on an on-going basis, with the clear possibility of the solution to a problem reported in one language area being found on another. The moderators will therefore also be facilitating communication across the wiki's language boundaries. This aspect of the moderators' action will, itself, be facilitated while their action gathers momentum.
- When the time for summarizing the results of the example.test evaluation comes around, the project coordinators will structure an agenda for a wrap-up discussion among the moderators. It is difficult to foresee what may require particular attention at that time, prior to at least some initial indication of how the temporary IDN TLDs are perceived, and user commentary about them is being reported on the IDNwiki. --Cary 09:57, 20 September 2007 (PDT)
