DNSSEC on IDN .test zones

February 29th, 2008 by Richard Lamb

Yesterday ICANN began DNSSEC signing the IDN .test zones. Over the next few days, we will be testing and carefully monitoring the system. It is not expected that DNSSEC or the testing will have any effect on normal DNS operations. Any user experiences or problems or feedback should be reported to <richard.lamb@icann.org>. This deployment is intended to demonstrate certain capabilities and also provide both ICANN and those interested in DNSSEC an opportunity to gain further experience with this new technology.

Certified access to the IDNwiki

IMPORTANT NOTE: The full testing of certified access initially described here was concluded on 1 June 2008.

The individual certificate that were installed for every facet of the IDNwiki and associated with one of the eleven original example.test names are still in place, but their expiration should be signaled by your browser. Subject to that condition each area can still be accessed via https as indicated in the table below. The target articles and their discussion pages can all be edited under the secure connection. However, many of the links provided in the articles, as well as all of the links in the sidebar, are explicitly for http access.

IDNA protocol revision

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) working group for the revision of the IDNA protocol has produced a suite of informational and standards-track documents that are currently in the queue of the RFC Editor. The primary changes made in IDNABIS are to permit scripts added to the Unicode Code Chart subsequent to its version 3.2, and to establish a one-to-one relationship between a U-label and the corresponding A-label.

The component documents and their editorial status may be seen by clicking through:
